This week we’re beginning an epic countdown of our all-time top 100 wedding songs. Choosing the music is a huge part of planning a wedding – something a couple can spend months labouring over to ensure all of the music from walking down the aisle to the big finish at the reception are perfect.

Many couples allow their guests to choose a song to play, but if you’re not comfortable relinquishing that amount of control then here is the first installment of our hundred favourite wedding songs. Some of them are for dancing, some for slow dancing, and some for dad dancing. We’ve even included a few sentimental favourites for walking down the aisle and a few tongue-in-cheek choices that are sure to have your guests up on the floor.

100. Etta James – At Last

A classic to kick things off – Etta James’ beloved ‘At Last’ is the perfect record for a first dance. Alternatively, walk down the aisle to this and there won’t be a dry eye in the house!

99. Percy Sledge – When a Man Loves a Woman

Another oldie, and a classic. This one has been a wedding staple since its 1966 release took it to number four in the UK chart, and it later re-entered at number two thanks to a Levi’s advert in 1987.

98. The Beatles – Twist and Shout

Anyone who says they don’t love this song will soon change their mind – this is a must-play for the reception and will have all the mums and dads up on the floor.

97. Dee-Lite – Groove is in The Heart

Oh yes – this is a classic floor filler that will have everyone out of their seats.

96. KC & The Sunshine Band – Get Down Tonight

This landmark of disco might be a little tongue-in-cheek for a wedding, but it’s a great dancing tune that will put a smile on the face of everyone from every generation. This is music that will have granny tapping her foot and the kids sliding on their knees. Fantastic.

95. Lionel Richie & Diana Ross – Endless Love

This is a beautiful duet from a king and queen of soul. A very popular slow dance song, this one can also be a terrific cringy bride/groom karaoke duet – will anyone reading this admit to doing it?!

94. Otis Redding – That’s How Strong My Love Is

Okay confession time, I’m a massive Otis fan and this probably won’t be the last song from him on this list. ‘That’s How Strong My Love Is’ is not a well-known choice for a slow dance at a wedding, but it’s one that will get all the couples up on the floor.

93. Womack & Womack – Teardrops

Not a typical choice for a wedding song I’ll admit, but this one has an irresistible beat. I can’t sit still when I hear it – and this is something you should look for in the perfect floor filler.

92. Cyndi Lauper – Girls Just Want to Have Fun

This one’s for the bridesmaids. Need I say more?

91. Donna Summer – I Feel Love

Get the party started with this absolute stormer of a disco tune. Co-written by legend Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer, this is (for me) the only floor filler you’ll need for an unforgettable wedding reception.

90. One Direction – What Makes You Beautiful

Bringing you bang up-to-date with this tune from One Direction. This one might be for the younger generation, but it’s sure to have them up, dancing and enjoying themselves.

That’s it for the first installment of our top 100 wedding songs! We hope you’ve enjoyed it and do stay tuned for more. If you think of a classic that we haven’t put in our list yet – let us know via Facebook or Twitter. We’d love to hear our followers’ suggestions!
